- I gave this property an excellent review two years ago and found that it was even better when I revisited it again recently. The staff were as attentive and professional as ever but the dining room had improved considerably. Sinalunga is a very ordinary town but the Locanda dell'Amorosa is an excellent spot from which to tour many of the sights and scenes of Southern Tuscany. We'll be back again (when we have saved up enough money for the next visit!).

- This place is the best! Definite headquarters to see Tuscany. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The service was wonderful. Don't miss this hidden treasure.

- Where to begin...after discovering Locanda dell'Amorosa on TripAdvisor, we fell in love with the pictures and reviews. Upon booking, we later learned of many freinds who stayed here and could not say enough about the place....after experiencing it for ourselves, we can only say that we could not imagine experiencing Tuscany any other way.
Pulling into the hotel is like stepping back in time. The grounds are beautiful. The views are classic Tuscany. The rooms were large and so cozy. The stafff was incredibly helpful. The food was wonderful (we ate there two nights...one in the restaurant and one in the wine shop/gardens). The pool provided the most tranquil retreat. Forget staying in a busy town and book here to truly treat yourself.
The one problem I would say about this place is that you do not want to ever leave. We rented a classic car (1962 convertible MGA... a must to explore Tuscany) and loved seeing the surrounding towns, but were torn as we didn't want to leave the peacefulness of Amorosa. We planned on eating in Sienna but opted for another dinner here. Just make sure you schedule extra time to enjoy the pleasure of laying around the resort as it only adds to the Tuscan experience.
The renovated, spacious rooms were a nice retreat from other places we stayed in Italy. The beds are enormous and the bathrooms provided modern comforts with a true classic feel. I cannot say enough about how beautiful the grounds are.
The hotel arranged a cooking class for us that we highly recomend as it was a true Tuscan experience. We also arranged a driver (www.mariodriver.com...ask for Mario as he was wonderful) to explore surrounding wineries on the Chianti Road and spend the day in Florence. With easy access to great towns like Sienna and Montalcino, the location in Sinalunga cannot be better.
Staying at Amorosa was a highlight of our Honeymoon and we cannot wait to return. Follow our lead and book here without thinking twice. - "Just how I pictured Tuscany!"

- We stayed here during out travels in Italy for a few days. Our room was large with a sitting area, large open windows, a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and shower (as well as spa essentials in the room), walk in closet, and safe. The grounds are breathtaking and it truly is an escape to a different world. The service was amazing; the staff ensured we were well taken care of and offerred great advice; they even arranged for us to be picked up from the train and had a rental car waiting for us. The restaurant was outstanding (both the service and the food) and the wine selection of course was magnificent. The pool was just the way to spend a lazy afternoon and the views of tuscany and surrounding vineyards was picture perfect. This was a gorgeous place to escape and I hope to stay there again someday. very romantic and relaxing. worth the spluge!

- A TripAdvisor Member, Cleveland, November 5, 2008
- My friend and I stayed at Amorosa for two nights in September. It was even better than the many positive reviews had led me to expect. The grounds are beautiful. What surprised me most was how good the restaurant was. One reviewer had complained about the facility being "on a main road." It may be a main road, but it gets little traffic and there was no traffic noise we noticed at all. A wonderful place, wish I had planned for a longer stay. (There is a 48 hour turnaround on laundry, which was a problem for us. Make sure that isn't an issue for you.)
- "Excellent Service"
- A TripAdvisor Member, London, August 5, 2008
- I visited the Locanda dell'Amorosa on Honeymoon and I cannot fault the service at the hotel, the staff always went out of their way for guests and were very attentive.
The rooms are very nice but not luxurious, we had a suite which was a good size and had a nice size living room with flat screen TV and complimentary mini bar which was
a very nice touch, it only contained 2 beers, 2 juices, 2 cokes, 2 waters but this was a good extra.
The hotel is beautiful and the pool is great for laying around and relaxing, bizarrely quite a few guests brought children with them to the hotel, it is a great hotel but not somewhere I would recommend for children as it is a place to relax and chill out. A nice touch is the complimentary mineral water, ice and iced tea that is available in the pool area. I did notice some reviews commented that a very busy road ran next to the hotel, this is not true, there is single lane road that runs near to the hotel but it is on no way busy?
I could not hear the road from the hotel and I am not sure what the reviewer was talking about? We ate in the restaurant for both lunch and dinner and overall it was to a very good standard with a lovely view, 2 dishes to avoid - pork loin with tuna sauce, I went for this as I thought pork and tuna would not mix and was intrigued - and guess what it dosent mix. And also the selection of lamb, this had a nice lamb chop but also a whole kidney and a slice of heart, some people love this but not me. Everything else we ate was really good and we had excellent service.I would definitely recommend this hotel and would go back there in a shot, I probably would not spend more than 3 days there but it is an excellent base for exploring Tuscany. - "Beautiful!"
- A TripAdvisor Member, San Francisco, July 27, 2008
- The reviews on TravelAdivsor are completely justified. We spent (regretfully only one) 1 night at Locanda Dell'Amorosa in July and has a wonderful stay. Amazing setting outside the town of Sinalunga, this is what I envisioned as true Tuscany. The staff were very friendly and thoroughly professional, our room was large and nicely appointed however not luxurious. We had lunch at the hotel which was very good and breakfast which was the norm for what we experienced in Italy. What sets this hotel apart is the historic building with terrific views of the town, vineyards at the property, very charming. It is very expensive especially with the dollar however will be back and wished we had more time there.

- We were a family of six traveling around Rome and Tuscany. We loved the restaurant at Amorosa and the staff to guest ratio was perfect. Our rooms were perfect and spotless. The location was very nice to travel to nearby towns and villages.

- Was there with my husband and two children to celebrate my 50th! We loved the property - it is incredibly pictureque. Every room has a magnificent view. The service and staff are wonderful - all hugs and kisses when we left - they were like family. The facility is beautiful and well maintained. The restaurant is pricey but very good. They also directed us to a restaurant in Sinalunga that was wonderful. Great location to do numerous day trips throughout Tuscany!

- A TripAdvisor Member, Connecticut, October 26, 2007
- Locanda Dell Amorosa was everything we hoped it would be. It was beautiful, quiet, peaceful and restful. The staff there are superb - well informed about the area, extremely helpful and very nice. Amorosa has an amazing continental breakfast that comes with the price of the room and the restaurant on site is excellent. While the rooms are not lush and extravagant, they are well appointed and have all the amenities one might need. The cleaning staff keeps the hotel perfectly spotless - I have never seen a staff clean so thoroughly! And the setting, well... it couldn't be more romantic or special. We cannot wait to return to Amorosa. And next time, we'll skip the stop in Rome and Venice and spend all our time in this lovely locanda.
- "Great staff but not as nice as expected"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Seattle, WA, USA, October 14, 2007
- We stayed at the Amorosa in October of 2007. I had found it just by searching on the web and had super high expectations based on the website photos
and the reviews posted on tripadvisor. We started our trip in Italy at a Relais and Chateaux hotel, Il Pelicano, in Porto Ercole which was truly 5 star (too expensive but still I
would highly recommend!).
I had similar expectations for Amorosa. We drove through the absolutely beautiful Tuscan countryside, through towns like Montelcino, and expected the hotel to be in a similar setting. I was so disappointed when we arrived as the hotel is in the area of Sinalunga that is much more industrial feeling and there are busy, loud roads right next to the hotel. I expected to walk the serene, quiet country roads through beautiful vineyards...
The vineyards around the hotel were completely dying out and not maintained at all. So i was sad and immediately tried to think about how we could move to another hotel near the picturesque wine towns without losing our money! However, the Amorosa started to grow on me. The rooms were very nice (not 5 star, but very nice), the grounds were kept very nice and clean, the cleaning staff was great, and the front desk people were super helpful recommending wonderful wineries for tours (go to Poggio Antico and Poliziano) and truly great restaurants in the area. The restaurant at the hotel was very good too.
The breakfast spread was just okay and the wine bar wasn't exactly as i was expecting. Also when we arrived there were a couple sets of really loud, obnoxious Americans in the courtyard and I feared that was all that was staying there. Happily, we found many Italians and international guests also. Overall, after the initial letdown, we had a nice 5 days there and we will remember our stay fondly. - "Beautiful Out-of-the-way Hotel"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Washington, DC, October 12, 2007
- I visited Amorosa in October, and was pleased that the hotel was even more lovely than the photos on their website. The hotel was fully booked, but did not seem crowded.
Based on earlier reviews, we did not visit the hotel's restaurant, but instead tried several fabulous places nearby.
Pros: beautiful setting; front desk made excellent restaurant recommendations; exceptionally clean rooms; wonderful service all around. Cons: internet access consists of two desktop computers which were in high demand; could hear highway traffic from courtyard; I found the bed uncomfortably firm, but this seemed to be the case throughout Italy, not limited to Amorosa; situated just a little too far from Siena & Florence to be convenient to these places, but nonetheless in a lovely part of Tuscany with small towns to explore. - "A Wonderful Tuscan Experience!"
- A TripAdvisor Member, New Jersey, September 26, 2007
- We just got back from a two week trip through Italy. Locanda Amorosa was certainly one of the high points! Beautiful property - well preserved, old farm but wonderfully modernized rooms. We stayed in Room 54, the special suite, and it was special. Two floors, a balcony, a loggia to lay out on or eat on, walk in closet, super large bathroom, large livingroom. I could have moved in! The staff at the front desk are friendly, knowledgable, helpful. Housekeeping services are great, the pool is beautiful (though not heated), the included breakfast was appropriate and it even has a wine bar. The only down side is the restaurant in sight -- we went one night and unfortunately the service was uneven, the food only average and it was expensive for what it was. The best experience is to eat in town, 5 minutes away at Focillo, a local trattoria. Great food, great fun, great prices. Other than that we recommend this property wholeheartedly!
- "Charming and well located"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Madrid, September 17, 2007
- We stayed here for 4 nights in a Junior Suite with our small children (hopefully not the ones referred to in the previous review!) On first impressions I thought I was a bit disappointed with the hotel but it really grew on me (and we had just come from somewhere that had been styled very differently). We have never had any maids clean the room as well as the ladies here did - it was such a treat. The pool area was nice apart from the standard loud Americans (sorry to say it chaps but why do alot of you speak at a level so we all have to listen to your tales!). I agree with the earlier review that the food was pretty awful though and if you dont get to order lunch before about 2.30 pm you are going to go hungry!! On the postivie side, the hotel had losts of charm, history, the staff were very helpful and I would definitely recommend it. Yes, it is expensive but so is all of Italy. Tip: Montepulciano is a lovely drive from the hotel. Siena was nice enough but we were a bit disappointed with it in the end, but the scenary around there is spectacular.
- "Beautiful place, wonderful experience"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Patterson, New York, September 10, 2007
- On our recent trip to Tuscany, Italy we stayed at the Locanda dell'Amorosa in Sinalunga. It is an outstanding place with all the comforts you can imagine. The staff is wonderful and attentive. The maid service comes around before the evening hours and asks if you need fresh linens. They also folded, and hung up some of my husbands shirts... they are very professional. The restaurant is top notch and has a lot of ambiance. While we were there, it was crowded every evening with people staying at the hotel and other couples out for the night. They have a complementary buffet breakfast that is delicious and an evening wine bar where you can taste some of their wines. We didn't get a chance to swim in their pool as it was a little chilly and we didn't have time, but it was in a very nice location on the grounds and had an awesome view of the surrounding countryside. Athough our room as one of the less expensive rooms that they offer, it was still a four star experience... Nice views, clean, comfortable and spacious. It is a fabulous place to stay for a wonderful vacation in beautiful Tuscany. We will definitely go back again.
- "Nice Facilities But Not Worth The Money"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Naples, Florida, September 9, 2007
- My husband and I stayed here for the four night minimum which they required when we booked the room. We had a deluxe suite (Room 50) which was very
disappointing in that it was immediately above the reception area and our view was of the parking lot and town beyond. The Restaurant was expensive and
the food mediocre at best (it's rated 2 stars but I don't know by who). Dinner is served on the outside covered terrace during good weather and inside a
charming dining room when the weather is bad. Both settings were equally nice. The restaurant is closed on Monday, as are most other nearby restaurants but
you can get a light dinner at the hotel's wine bar.
The hotel is more like a small compound with lots of rooms. Mostly Americans during our stay with a few Brits and Italians. The pool is nice with it's view, lounge chairs and cabana area. Ice tea and bottled water is available free of charge. When we stayed here we were expecting a quiet ambiance, but there was a family staying with children who were very unruly in the hotel common areas and the restaurant. The hotel did nothing to stop the chaos and our dinner and breakfast was totally ruined. Most guests complained, but the baby banged on the high chair during every meal and the older brother ran around throwing rocks and generally releasing all his energy on the guests.
The one bright spot was that the staff were very sweet and welcoming. Perhaps we just hit the hotel during an "off" week. The only other thing we could not understand was the hotels requirement for a minimum stay. We say guests come and go after one or two nights. The location of the hotel is a good home base for exploring Tuscany. If you are going to the area I would suggest late July or early August. By the time we went, late August, the sunflowers, lavender and fields were barren and it looked like we were in Montana. If you go to Siene from any point in Tuscany, go by train or bus, you will NEVER find a parking space within a reasonable walking distance. We tried to find a spot for 90 minutes and then just gave up and went back to the hotel. - "Already scheming how I can return..."

- My husband and I stayed at Amorosa 3 nights this past August based on reviews read on Tripadvisor. Hands down, this is the most special place we have ever stayed. The property is breathtakingly gorgeous and the staff is extremely helpful in suggesting or arranging side trips to neighboring hill towns. The standard room was immaculately clean and spacious with a good-sized bathroom. Water and soft drinks were complimentary--a very nice touch. Breakfast was lovely. We spent the late afternoons lounging by the beautiful pool set among olive trees and Italian cypresses. If I had to criticize something about our amazing stay, I would say that the restaurant's service was comically bad, although the waitperson in charge was a consummate professional. We look forward to coming back!

- A TripAdvisor Member, Cleveland, August 26, 2007
- To call this place a hotel would be an injustice. This place is a palace where they have a room for you to stay. The premises are unreal!!! A beautiful garden with a great view. An infinity pool that looks out onto the rolling hills of Tuscany. A great romantic restaurant. Our room was way too big for me and my wife and absolutely gorgeous. We had two stories with two bedrooms. The staff will pretty much.We stayed at this place for only two nights which was unfortunate. During the day, we were going to explore some of the neighboring town but instead stayed in the hotel pool all day. The only problem is you will have to rent a car to get to this place. But then, it gives you the opportunity to see some of the neighboring towns.
- "Perfect relaxing break"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Northern Ireland, July 30, 2007
- I must admit, I'm trying to find something that can be improved with this hotel but it really was superb. My wife and I spent 3 nights and it really was one of the most relaxing and beautiful places we have ever stayed at. We had intended to go exploring to some of the hill villages each morning but only managed it one day.Instead, we relaxed over breakfast, which had a good spread, then usually lay by the pool reading or sipping complimentary iced tea. The view by the pool is great overlooking Sinalunga which, by the way has not alot to offer. Lunch was usually taken on the grass terrrace just below the wine bar which again was good with some great wines. We ate at the restaurant 2 nights and found the food to be fine if fairly expensive,(if you order the steak make sure to ask for it to be well done otherwise it appears extremely rare). The room we stayed in was really large with vaulted ceiling and an even bigger bathroom and it was nice to have soft drinks provided complimentary. Finally,The staff were excellent, especially the tall dark haired lady from the wine bar who always greeted us with a cheery smile and really knew her wines .Trust me, go for a few days to unwind, you will not be disapointed.
- "Beautiful hotel and location"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Cambridge, Massachusetts, July 28, 2007
- I read all the reviews on Trip Advisor re: this hotel before choosing it for a stop on my honeymoon. This hotel was absolutely beautiful. The grounds are awesome with a pool area that gives a great view of the country side. The wine bar and outside tables were great for a leisurely lunch and sharing a bottle of wine. It was centrally located for all the day trips we wanted to take in the Tuscan Country side. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone that is traveling in this area. The major downside was the restaurant. The food was relatively bland and expensive. I was disappointed both times I ate at the restaurant for dinner. I suggest planning dinners elsewhere and enjoying a light lunch at the hotel or a bottle of wine.
- "A lovely respite"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Marina del Rey, California, July 20, 2007
- This is a beautiful somewhat secluded spot in the Tuscany countryside. The hotel is luxuriously appointed, from the check in area, to the dining room, to the room. Once you check in, touring is over and you're there to drink a glass of wine, sit in the sun and relax. It's a very friendly environment, with lots of the guests trading tips and stories with each other.
- "Beautiful"
- A TripAdvisor Member, San Francisco, California, July 18, 2007
- Unbelievable service! From the receptionists to the porters to the waiters. Everything with a smile and enthusiasm. The evening receptionist was so thoughtful - I had asked him about kids activities and he had some suggestions. In the morning, I found print-outs of the place that he suggested waiting for us. Another example - my 3 year old son loves veal milanese. It wasn't on the restaurant menu, it was already 10pm and we wanted it delivered to our room. No problem. And it was by far the best veal milanese we had on our trip! Things you should know: our room was huge and had 2 bathrooms. The beds were the most comfortable and biggest that we've slept in anywhere in Italy (it was larger than a California King). Absolutely clean and splendid. But no view. There is a nice breakfast buffet - not huge by American standards - but plentiful with their own locally made honey (delicious!). And the waitress was nice enough to make fried eggs and toast for my 3 year old.My husband also bought a lot of wine there - and he found the prices to be very reasonable. The pool was pristine and clean but cold in July. Cold pools seem to be the norm around Tuscany though.
- "Definitely worth a detour"
- A TripAdvisor Member,Northern Ireland, July 8, 2007
- This is a most beautiful property in a tranquil countryside setting just a few minutes from the small town of Sinalunga. It's expensive but well worth it's five star rating. Just look at the photographs...they speak for themselves.Highlights: All the staff were most helpful both before and during our 3 night stay; the receptionists recommended and booked some wonderful restaurants for us in the locality. Ristorante Conte Matto in Trequanda and La Bandita in Bettolle were excellent; the hotel has an Inn or Osteria in it's own grounds which is a lovely spot to unwind and take a light lunch;the rooms are spacious and well appointed. All are housed in the original buildings of the property and many are situated around the central courtyard.Disappointment: only one really. The Amorosa's own restaurant, "Le Coccole dell'Amorosa", has a rather disappointing setting for dining al fresco and the meal was average rather than excellent.
- "Beyond Beautiful- but remote..."
- A TripAdvisor Member, Orange County, California, July 5, 2007
- Since I used the reviews on this site extensively before selecting a hotel in Tuscany- I began writing my own review in my head the moment I arrived!
I stayed at the Locanda Dell Amorosa for 9 days (June 2007). I travelled with my mother for her 60th birthday. We flew into Rome and had arranged for a driver to take us to the hotel
(another 2 hours). From the moment you arrive it seems almost too good to be true. It is "perfectly rustic"... so perfect we joked it felt like a movie set for Tuscany!
The hotel office staff spoke near perfect english and they directed us to our room (#43). It was lovely with a view of the front vineyard and cypress lined long long drive way. Here are the plus points: it is quiet and tranquil atmosphere, the furnishings are first rate, the hotel will arrange for anything you wish to do, the grounds are impeccable and great for walking, the service staff is top notch and also speak english. The included breakfast is great (eggs, meats, breads, scones, fruits, cerals). The reasturant is wonderful food. They have 4 bikes you can borrow to ride the area. You are minutes from Sinalunga which is an un-inspired little town. But does have an ATM and necessities if needed.
You are 15 minutes away from Luciango, 20 from Castlemunzio, and 40 from Pienza, and 50 from Cortona, and 30 from Siena... so you can see plenty using this as a base location. There are fields of sunflowers on the property as well as vineyards. The negatives: the pool is not heated although unearthly beautiful with its infinity edge falling into a tuscan landscape. The food in the wine bar (only place to get ANYthing to eat during the day) is very expensive and odd (no sandwich of anykind). The cleaning staff are a bit too diligent-practically re-packing you everyday! You are really remote.
There is no place to walk to get a bit of lunch if you wanted... The resturant is very very expensive ($100 Euro with no wine or dessert for two). While they offer DVD in the lobby to borrow they only have about 30 to choose from! The "satelite" TV means you get only 2 english channels and those are both based in England and offer no american news. No american paper either (note nearly 90% of their guests are American). They have a computer in the lobby with internet access - but you have to wait and wait to use. That was silly. No other resort of its price would have such few options to get American news. There is no gym (although they certainly have room to add one.) You need either a car (which we had for one day, delivered to the hotel too) or a driver (we used Roberto Becchi of PBS fame and worth every penny by far). Feel free to contact me for any questions about what I may have forgottent to mention... would I stay there again? YES. But I would bring DVDs, and a cell phone to call home or get e-mail that way... - "Do yourself a favor and stay here"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Los Angeles, California, July 4, 2007
- My wife and I stayed at the Locanda for 4 nights and we wish we would have been able to extend our stay, as this is one of the finest properties we have ever stayed in - anywhere.
Once we found the property, which wasn't the easiest to find, the entire experience was absolutely incredible. We were upgraded to a fantastic room (56) with a view of the gorgeous courtyard.
The property itself is stunning - photos do not do the property justice. You have to visit the Locanda to truly experience its magic. This 13th century property is in pristine condition and
offers immaculate and lush grounds, an incredible infinity pool (the ice tea at the pool was delicious) with a spectacular view of Sinalunga, walking trails, and an on-site vineyard.
The hotel staff could not have been more helpful in assisting us with all of our excursions. They helped us maximize our brief stay in Tuscany by providing a recommended itinerary of wineries and other sights, driving directions, restaurant recommendations and reservations, as well as helping us change the drop off location for our rental car. In addition, the Locanda's restaurant was our favorite in Tuscany (we ate there twice.) We enjoyed the Locanda's local wine and felt the food was the freshest and highest quality of our entire trip to Italy. The breakfast was the best we had in Italy as well. We cannot recommend this property highly enough. We will plan our next trip to Tuscany in order to return to Locanda. - "Superb"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Washington DC, June 20, 2007
- We highly recommend the Locanda Dell Amorosa. The hotel, location, grounds, room, wine bar and dining were absolutedly wonderful. There was nothing we lacked, or would have changed. The location is super, central to all the Tuscany locations we wanted to visit. We had rented a car and spent each of our 4 days, touring around the countryside. We stayed in the special suite and would definitely book it again. The large terrace, 2nd floor patio, views from the windows, baths, service... well, it was delightful. We do want to point out the super maid service. Each day, not only were the rooms kept immaculate, but the maids ensured all our clothes were neatly arranged and perfectly folded in the large walk in closet. We also had some items cleaned. Everything came back perfect. Superb place. I can't wait to return.
- "A Nice Experience"
- A TripAdvisor Member, El Dorado Hills, California, June 16, 2007
- My husband and I stayed at the Locanda for 3 nights at the end of May. We did not have a car - we chose instead to arrange in advance for drivers as needed during our 2 week stay in Italy.
So although Sinalunga is close to many things it would have been remote without a rental car and if we had not arranged for drivers. It is easy to have leisurely, relaxed visits to multiple
towns in Tuscany in one day when there is no worry regarding driving directions, finding parking, misturns, crowds, narrow streets, etc. And there are many advantages to having a local take
you around and give the lowdown.
You chose the pick up and drop off times and design your itinerary and pacing the way you would like. It is expensive but it balances out somewhat when you think of the days you pay for a rental car, or pay for a rental car and don't need it or don't want it, gas, tolls and stress. So having drivers set up made the Locanda a good base. There was one day that we had not arranged a driver for and I really wanted to also see Montepulciano, Piensa and Cortona which I had not scheduled. All the local driving agencies had long since been booked. But Martina at the front desk pulled a rabbit out of a hat. She started calling around and got an old friend of hers who is the owner of a driving agency to actually take us around - as all his drivers were of course booked. Martina made our stay at the Locanda special in many little ways.
We arranged for drivers through our travel agent but you could simply email your hotel(s) with the request and they will arrange it. Make sure to give plenty of advance notice if you are coming in peak tourist season. (In May these agencies were securing reservations for October). As for the hotel itself, it is lovely.
Our room (#32) was a deluxe double and we paid E350/night. It was large with a very large bathroom and walk-in closet. We had a choice between that room and the one above it (#41). The one above had a living room but a much smaller bath. But by having a separate living area the space was cut in half. The second room had more character but felt a bit closed in since there were two separate rooms. Neither room had a view of anything and that was disappointing. But our room was very comfortable.
There is a very good breakfast served in the Osteria with eggs, wonderful boar sausage, bacon, tomatoes, fresh fruit salad and lovely pastries and Italian cakes. But dinner was really outstanding. We had dinner there 2 of our 3 nights. If you are lucky, Aziza will wait on you. She is a beautiful, young woman originally from Morocco. Aziza is remarkable in her polish and tableside skill. Watch her when she is pouring, swirling and tasting wine off from the side of the table that ordered it, checking before she offers it. Watch her skill and speed at carving up a Florentine steak. And Aziza is just a lovely person.
The reason I would stay at the Locanda again would be for their restaurant. Yes it is upscale but very relaxed - rustic country inn elegance. Dinner for the 2 of us was between $80-$100 with a half bottle of the local wine. We would have 3 courses each, but some of the courses we split. I left behind my jewelry bag in the room when we checked out. It was only costume jewelry but it contained some of my favorite pieces. The Locanda found it and mailed it back to me in the states. It arrived within 3 or 4 days of being home. I feel the cost of the Locanda is comparatively low for what you get. We stayed at either 4 or 5 star (American standards) hotels on this trip and the Locanda was the least expensive. - "Perfect"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Ireland, June 14, 2007
- We have stayed at several hotels in the Tuscany area and this is by far the best. The location, accommodation and meals were excellent but the most impressive feature in our opinion was the attitude of the staff. Everyone was extremely pleasant and willing to do anything for you. Nothing was too much trouble and it made our holiday. The only disadvantage was that other hotels, where we stayed during our trip, could not match the superb standards of this establishment. Many thanks to all at the Amorosa.
- "Truly superb as ever"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Washington DC, June 20, 2007
- We've just returned from another wonderful few days at the gorgeous Amorosa... it's hard to find fault with the place - impeccable attention to detail everywhere - from the rooms to the gardens - and all in a very understated form of luxury. The staff are just outstanding - Lorena looked after us so well with such professionalism and a continued genuine smile - this fantastic demeanour was reflective of many of their great staff - it's so hard to find these days and very refreshing. We just blissed out there and will return again and again as the experience you get here is unmatched in any other location we have stayed in. Truly Magnifico!
- "Perfect Hotel"
- A TripAdvisor Member, Netherlands, May 16, 2007
- We stayed in the Amorosa in May 2007. We had a Deluxe room with a beautiful view of the vineyards. The room was large, especially for European standards. We have traveled all over and this is one of the best. The location was convenient to several Tuscan villages such as Montepulciano, Pienza, Montelcino and of course Siena. The staff was wonderful, the restaurant extremely good and the grounds very beautiful. I cannot think of anything that was negative about the Amorosa. The hotel also made an excellent recommendation for a private wine tour - Country Tours. We highly recomend using this company if you want a private wine tour in Tuscany. It is well worth the price. Overall, this is a perfect place to stay in Tuscany.

- Ideally, we had in mind a small hotel with a pool in Siena, but as this was not available we chose countryside accommodation between Arezzo and Sienna. What a pleasant surprise. My husband and I are greatly affected by our surroundings and everything about this hotel was so pleasing to the eye that one could not help relaxing. The restoration has been done superbly - I ran out of film. I am sure that the basic double would be as nice as any room and we certainly did not use our sitting room, as we enjoyed the grounds and views so much.

- Had not been for twelve years - same great place, a few more rooms and sadly a few more fellow Americans, Wine bar/osteria, pool = great add on. Get a great bottle, settle into a chaise and stare into the distance!

- Everything good we heard about the Locanda was absolutely true and even better. It was exactly what we were only hoping to experience. The staff was wonderful...always incredibly helpful with recommendations for places to eat even though the restaraunt on site is one of the very best in all those we expereinced during the 11 days we were in Italy. They also gave us perfect recommendations of road trips to take to wonderful small Tuscan towns. We simply cannot say enough about our stay... I have already recommended to everyone I work with as well as my sisters travel agency who is always looking for new places to recommend. I loved sitting out in the courtyard every morning sipping a capucino at one of the small cafe tables... and doing the same thing under the stars at night with a glass of wine. Oh, and the room was amazing... huge, wonderfully airy and open... perfect, fabulous, wonderful!

- We stayed at Amorosa for four nights during our honeymoon and didn't want to leave. The location is stunning and the grounds are very well looked after. We particularly liked the infinity pool with fantastic views over the surrounding vineyards and countryside. The rooms are rustic in style but also very clean and modern - a perfect combination. The staff seemed to be genuinely friendly, and were able to recommend some fantastic walks and vineyard tours. There is a wine bar with a great selection of local wines, and also a restaurant serving typical Tuscan cuisine. We had three meals in there and each one was stunning, our only reservation would be that the menu is probably too limited to have more than 3 meals. We would recommend Amorosa to honeymooners and couples looking for complete relaxation away from the crowds. It is worth hiring a car to get there and to tour the surrounding countryside and villages, such as Montepulciano and Montalcino. We picked up a Fiat from Avis in Chiusi, which is on the main rail link from Rome.
